February marks the 14th annual Stout month. Throughout the month, 10 of Mountain Sun taps will run black with a rotating selection of 19 different stouts, including 8 house beers, 2 homebrew contest winning beers, and 9 guest stouts.

You know, sometimes breweries do some pretty cool stuff. Check out Avery Brewing Co's Collaboration not Litigation Ale. The short version is that Avery and Russian River Brewing both have a Belgium beer called Salvation Ale. Instead of one of the breweries relinguishing the rights, they decided to mix the beers.

So Valentines Day is quickly approaching. Do you know what you're doing this year? How about ditching the champagne and trying some cool new beers instead?

Now, of course I'll participate, but what Stout(s) should I drink? The only rules are that it can't be Guinness, Beamish or Murphy's, but I'm going to make it a Colorado Stout. Check out this report over at ProBrewer.com . Apparently the state of Washington conducted an experiment that allowed a portion of its state-run and all of it's private contract liquor stores to sell booze on Sunday. The result? They made more money.

The state was expecting to make $9.6 million off of the experiment which runs until the end of June, but it now thinks that it will make $18.5 million.

This Denver Post article/map gives the Palisade Brewery a nice plug. The last time I was on the Western Slope, the Palisade Brewery hadn't opened yet. But I hear it's the place to go on Friday evenings if you want to rub elbows with some of the area's winemakers.

I've read about the Red Truck IPA before and it sounds tasty!. Sounds like I need to go on a road trip!

So I called up the liquor store closest to my house which I thought might be able to get the Dogfish Head 120 and the guy said it wouldn't be a problem. I stopped in last night and saw a shelf of Dogfish Head 4-packs and I got excited! But it was just the 90. I tried talking to the guy about the 120, but he was too busy flirting with the chick that also works there to pay attention to me.

I read something the other day that reminded me of a trip to Moab my wife and I took a couple years ago. It was a great trip, we met some really cool people and saw some really cool places.

We tried a couple Moab breweries while we we there and we discovered that Utah's liquor laws are really strange. For starters restaurants have to physically split the area where beer and liquor are served. I guess you can't get an Irish Car Bomb in Utah.

I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the world's biggest football fan, but I was amazed when I read this in today's Rocky:

44 percent of respondents to a Coors Light Survey of more than 2,500 male football fans say making Super Bowl plans is a higher priority than planning for Valentine's Day. And more than 30 percent of those responding would rather see their favorite team win the Super Bowl than win a date with a Supermodel, win a year's supply of beer or win their fantasy football league for three years in a row.
