Colorado beers lose in first round of Beer Madness tourney

Submitted by Justinian on March 20, 2007 - 8:58am.

So I spotted this over at Starting a Brewery blog. It's a Washington Post Beer Madness tournament. A handful of Colorado Beers were competing, but all of them got knocked out in the first round. Too bad.

Although I wonder how they came up with the pairings in the first round. In many cases the styles don't even match up. I mean poor Blue Moon was competing against Sierra Nevada Pale Ale... It didn't have a chance.

Flying Dog releases Heller Hound spring seasonal

Submitted by Justinian on March 13, 2007 - 7:53am. |

Man, it sure feels like Spring. It stays light longer (thanks Congress!), all the snow is gone from my yard in Denver, and today it's going to be 74 degrees today!

After this winter, I'm looking forwad to sitting on the porch drinking a beer and soaking up the sun. Granted I'm sure we've got a couple snowstorms to come, but I'll take the warmth while I can.

Speaking of Spring, check this out. Flying Dog's Heller Hound spring season will be available from April through May.

LOST beer labels

Submitted by Justinian on March 12, 2007 - 7:50am. | |

The next time you head over to a friend's house to watch LOST, or the next time you head to your fridge to grab a beer to watch LOST, don't forget the Darhma Initiative Beer.

The guys at Insanely Great Tees designed a printable PDF beer label that you can tape on your bottles. I think this will look great on my next batch of homebrew.

Beer-battered cod and onion rings

Happy Birthday Colorado Beer Blogs!

Submitted by Justinian on March 7, 2007 - 7:16pm.

So ColoradoBeerBlogs.com or ColoradoBeerNews.com (we have a bit of an identity problem) turned 1-year-old today.

Pretty exciting, huh? We celebraed by adding some new navigation links to the upper right column of the page. Apparently people using Internet Explorer 7 were having trouble seeing the dropdown links - oops.

Anyway, I'm going to go drink a Hercules Double IPA to celebrate.

Great Divide opened its new Tap room today (March 5). All this week (March 5-10) beers will be half off and some lucky soul will win free beer for a year!

A brewery in Pueblo

Submitted by Justinian on March 3, 2007 - 8:25am. |

I stumbled upon this article in the Colorado Springs Gazette. It's about Pueblo's year-and-a-half-old Shamrock Brewing Company and its brewer Alan Stiles:

Stiles said he was warned by many people that a blue-collar, Budweiser-drinking town like Pueblo wasn’t ready for Belgian ales and Irish porters. But he not only pitched these beers to his patrons, he’s upped the ante with a Belgian trippel and a barleywine — and he’s found that people who used to ask for the bland and canned are now widening their beer horizons.
