No Dogfish Head 120, yet - NBB Trippel instead

So I called up the liquor store closest to my house which I thought might be able to get the Dogfish Head 120 and the guy said it wouldn't be a problem. I stopped in last night and saw a shelf of Dogfish Head 4-packs and I got excited! But it was just the 90. I tried talking to the guy about the 120, but he was too busy flirting with the chick that also works there to pay attention to me.

NBB Trippel

So if you're looking for the Dogfish Head 90-minute IPA, Extreme Wine & Spirits in Lakewood has it for $9.99.

But I did pick up a sixer of New Belgium Brewery's Trippel . Belgium Trappist beer are unlike anything that most American beer drinkers have ever experienced. The style came about more than a 1,000 years ago with monks of the Cistercian Order who actually mandated that they work. Making beer was one of the vocations that the Monks decided to take on.

The yeast is the important part of these beers. It produces some really wild flavors.

NBB's Trippel pours a beautiful pale orange color with a snow white head. The first sniff and you'll get some apple-yeasty flavors. The flavor is really hard to describe. But I tasted some fruit overtones, like citrus and even a hint of banana. This is one of those beers that you want to keep tasting just so you can figure out what flavors it is you're tasting. The caramel tones are really smooth.

At a reportedly 8% abv, this is a pretty strong beer, but you don't really taste the alcohol.

Saw a good number of them at the beer & wine store attached to the Whole Foods on Havana near Monaco.

Awesome! My buddy swung by and picked up some last night. I can't wait to try this. We also picked up some Great Divide Hercules Double IPA and some Steamworks Third Eye PA.

I'm going to Hop Heaven!
