Stout Friday: Breckenridge Oatmeal Stout, Fort Collins Chocolate Stout

Submitted by Justinian on March 2, 2007 - 8:05pm. | |

ok. so here's my contribution to Beer Blogging Friday or whatever it's going to be called.

I've been holding onto a Breckenridge Brewery Oatmeal Stout and some Ft. Collins Brewery Chocolate Stout for just this occasion.

The Breck Oatmeai Stout pours a nice black with a small dense mollasses-colored head. It's got that odd initial taste that I've experienced with Samuel Smith's Double Chocolate Stout. After the initial taste, it's all roasted barley goodnes.

It's Stout Month @ Mountain Sun

If you like Stout, you should plan on spending the nest four weeks at Mountain Sun in Boulder.

February marks the 14th annual Stout month. Throughout the month, 10 of Mountain Sun taps will run black with a rotating selection of 19 different stouts, including 8 house beers, 2 homebrew contest winning beers, and 9 guest stouts.

The house beers include:

  • Thunderhead Stout (Robust American Stout)
  • Korova Cream Stout (Rich & Roasty Milk Stout)
  • Belgian Dip Stout (Decadent Chocolate Stout)
  • Cherry Dip Stout (Sweet Cherry Belgian Dip)
  • Old School Irish Stout (Dry Irish Stout)
  • Coconut Cream Stout (Silky Milk Stout w/ Toasted Coconut)*
  • Stoked Oak Stout (Smokey Oak/Vanilla Bourbon Stout)*
  • Yonder Mountain Stout (Robust Stout w/ British Pale Malt)
  • Trickster Stout (Hoppy American Stout)
  • Usurper Imperial Stout (Russian Imperial Stout)

Calling all beer bloggers!

So check out this post over at appellationbeer.com.  He's proposing a Beer Blogging Day, when all us beer bloggers post about a certain style. It's going to start on March 2 with everyone blogging about Stout.

Now, of course I'll participate, but what Stout(s) should I drink? The only rules are that it can't be Guinness, Beamish or Murphy's, but I'm going to make it a Colorado Stout. So if you've got suggestions on which Stout(s) you want me to write about on the first-ever Beer Blogging Day, leave me a note in the comments section. Better yet, sign up for your own blog (either here or elsewhere) and participate!
