I can't get enough of Dale's Pale Ale. I Love everything about it, from the colorful aluminum can to it's incredible hoppiness.
I first read a story about Dale's being the first micro-brewed beer in Colorado to be bottled (or should that be canned) in a can. So I asked the guys at Primo Vino in Olde Town Arvada to order it for me. Since then, I've been able to find Dale's in pretty much any liquor store in town. My preferred way to purchase it is in the cardboard 12-packs, which remind me of buying Olympia in college.
If you're a hophead and haven't had the chance to sample this beer, pick up a few -- you won't be disappointed.
What makes Dale's worthy of being named Beer O' The Month? Well, I've been drinking quite a bit of it for starters. Let's begin with it's aroma. It's got that nice hoppy, flowery smell, which tells you you're in for hop heaven. As far as taste goes, it's all hops here. There's really no maltiness to this beer, so it's not for everybody. It's the kind of beer that hits you on the top of your mouth. and lingers there for a while.
This is a pale ale, it's light in color, light in malt, but heavy in hops.
It's brewed by Oskar Blues in Lyons.
So why do they put it in cans?
"Because we think fun in the great outdoors calls for great beer. Our cans go where bottled beers can't, where flavorless canned beers don't belong. And no matter where you drink Dale's Pale Ale, our can protect it from light and oxidation far better than bottles do," according to the Web site.
I can attest to that fact. We packed some Dale's in with us on a backpacking trip. It tasted even better after sitting in a mountain stream all day.
