Craft Lager Festival on tap in Manitou

[img_assist|nid=160|title=|desc=|link=popup|align=right|width=100|height=75]Jason Yester, Brewer at Bristol Brewing Company, has a solution for what Ales you – Lagers.
On Aug. 12, the quaint mountain town of Manitou Springs, will be home to the fourth annual Craft Lager Festival. The festival will feature unlimited sampling, the awards ceremony for exceptional beers, and home grown organic music.
According to Yester, the festival has grown to become the largest celebration of bottom-fermented beer, a style which during the Ale Revolution of the 1990s was almost overlooked by American microbrewers and consumers.
“What's interesting to me, is that when you dive into the styles of lager being brewed out there, you'll find they are just as diverse if not more than Ales, Yester said. “This festival not only showcases and educates the public, but it also motivates brewers to try their hand at lagers.
Yester noted that the Colorado isn’t exactly lacking in beer festivals.
“The approach is to bring in a diverse selection of beers, and build a gathering so unique that no one else can match it, he said. “It's taken some patience and a lot of determination, but it's working!
This year’s fare includes nearly 100 lagers from Hawaii to Boston.
But what’s a good festival without a good cause?
Drink a beer and save a tree. All proceeds of the festival will go to Pikes Peaks open space areas.
“The Colorado Springs area really struggles with urban sprawl, and if we all just sit in the back seat and watch it happen there won't be any natural spaces protected for us to enjoy, Yester said.
The Craft Lager Festival takes place from 12 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 12 at Soda Springs Park, 1016 Manitou Ave. in Manitou Springs. Tickets are $20 at the gate and include unlimited sampling, the awards ceremony for exceptional beers, and home grown organic music.
