BREWERS GUILD TO HOST 3rd ANNUAL FIRKIN RENDEZVOUS

The Colorado Brewers Guild will host the third annual Firkin Rendezvous on February 24 at Bristol Brewing Company in Colorado Springs. The event will allow beer lovers to sample traditional and not-so-traditional English-style cask ales dispensed by gravity or hand pump from firkin casks. All of the beers will be brewed and served by brewery members of the Colorado Brewers Guild, including Colorado Springs breweries Bristol and Phantom Canyon.

Great Divide releases Fresh Hope Pale Ale

Just in time for cooler temperatures, Great Divide will bottle its fall seasonal beer, Fresh Hop Pale Ale. Taking advantage of the late-summer hop harvest, Great Divide searched for the perfect combination of fresh, whole cone hops to create the distinctive hop profile of Fresh Hop Pale Ale. The September hop harvest is a once-a-year opportunity to brew with fresh hops, sometimes called "wet hops." Normally, brewers use dried and pelletized hops, which are more stable than wet hops, making them the standard form for year-round use.

Colorado takes 2nd in GABF medals

Colorado brewers took home 28 medals; 10 gold, 7 silvers and 11 bronze.

Steamworks Brewing Co, in Durango had to change the name of its Sept. 23 Brewers Olympics to Brewers Olympixxx after the U.S. Olympic committee called and complained.

In celebration of Steamworks Brewing Co.’s 10th Anniversary, the popular Durango brewpub will host the Inaugural Brewers Olympics and Beer Festival on Sat., Sept. 23, 2006, beginning at Noon. The La Plata County Humane Society will be the beneficiary of the festivities.

State Fair beer winners announced

There’s more to the Colorado State Fair than rodeos and Ferris Wheels. There’s also a microbrew and homebrew competition.
Although the competition is open to any microbrewrey, Colorado held its own, although the best of show went to Bells Brewery in Kalamazoo, Mich. For its Kalamazoo Stout.
With 12 ribbons, Bells Brewery was the most decorated entrant.
Durango’s Ska brewing took home five ribbons, as did Great Divide and Rockyard.
Golden’s second largest brewery, Golden City came back with three ribbons.
