State Fair beer winners announced

There’s more to the Colorado State Fair than rodeos and Ferris Wheels. There’s also a microbrew and homebrew competition.
Although the competition is open to any microbrewrey, Colorado held its own, although the best of show went to Bells Brewery in Kalamazoo, Mich. For its Kalamazoo Stout.
With 12 ribbons, Bells Brewery was the most decorated entrant.
Durango’s Ska brewing took home five ribbons, as did Great Divide and Rockyard.
Golden’s second largest brewery, Golden City came back with three ribbons.

  • Rock Bottom South Denver - Old Elk

  • Great Divide Brewing Company - Old Ruffian Barley Wine

  • Big Horn Brewing Company-Highlands Ranch - Dunkelstikken

  • Deschutes Brewery - Broken Top Bock

  • Bells Brewery Inc - Bell's Porter

  • Bells Brewery Inc - Bell's Kalamazoo Stout

  • Pug Ryans Brewery - Morningwood Wheat

  • CB & Potts/Big Horn Brewery - 5th Diminsion

  • Bells Brewery Inc - Bell's Wheat Love Ale

  • Dry Dock Brewing Co – Paragon

  • Dry Dock Brewing Co - URCA Vanilla Porter

  • Bells Brewery Inc - Bell's Amber Ale

  • Carver Brewing Co - Southwestern Braggot(mead)

  • Great Divide Brewing Company - Hercules Double India Pale Ale

In the homebrew competition Kevin Kroll of Lincoln won First place and Best in Show with is porter. In the mead competition Tom Gardner of Denver won first place and Best in Show with his semi-sweet mead.
