A weekend in Santa Fe

Submitted by Justinian on May 21, 2006 - 8:52pm.

I spent a long weekend in Santa Fe for a good friend's wedding.
There's something about Santa Fe that is unique to that city. It's a feeling more than a style. Everybody I meet in Santa Fe seemed to be really at ease with themselves.

Melle johnson, usability and beer

First shamless SEO for my Melle Johnson songwriting myspace site. I bring it up because Stin consulted on my web strategy as well as offered to design my blog when I have funds to do that.

We're spoiled

Imagine a world without Old Chicago.
Well until recently, Louisville, Kentucky was that place.
A new Old Chicago opened and this is what Jeffrey Lee Puckett had to say about it in the Courier-Journal (emphasis mine):

Almost makes me wanna have kids

OK, so this isn't related to Colorado Beer, but it's still related to beer.
Just in time for Father's Day, Rogue Ales out of Newport, Ore. released Dad's Little Helper Malt Liquor.
I haven't had Malt Liquor since Mickey's was popular during my freshman year of college!

Beer and the Law

We all know that drinking and driving don't mix, but how do you know when enough is enough?
In Colorado, the legal blood alcohol limit is 0.08%. Our friends over at the Brewers Association have a nifty Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) Calculator for Beer Drinkers that will tell you who many beers you can have in one hour and still be able to (legally) drive home.

Springtime in Miami Beach

Submitted by Justinian on April 29, 2006 - 6:29am.

So I'm in Miami Beach for a few days with nothing to do but sit on the beach, sit by the pool, sit on my ass. Wow, this is rough. We're staying at the Palms Hotel. It's one of those ritsy places that is full of young, pretty foreign tourists. After a grueling few hours of sitting on the beach I decide that I need a beer. So I stake out a nice hammock in the shade and head to the poolside bar. I order a corona so I can be like the people in the Corona ads, cept this Corona comes in a can. OK, it's a poolside bar, no glass. I can accept that. I'm expecting this to be expensive, so I pull out $6, which I thought would cover tip and the beer. Think again, bucko. "That'll be $7.63," the bartender tells me. I'm thinking that I could've got a sixer of the same beer for this price. The bartender got a 37 cent tip.

Springtime in the Rockies

Man is it nice out! It's patio time in Colorado.
It doesn't get much better than sitting outside in the sun drinking a nice cold beer.
For those of us lucky enough to live or work in Golden, there's a little place we call the Yard. The Yard is also known as Golden City Brewery and it got its nickname because it sits in brewer Charlie's backyard.

Beer named after me, sort of

I've named a number of my homebrews after me. JPA (Justinian Pale Ale) was the latest, but not greatest. Justinian Beer label

Health Beer? I hope not

So I'm sitting around eating lunch the other day and I pick up a copy of Readers Digest that someone left on the table.
When I was looking for the "I Stared Down Death" article, I found an article about the health effects of beer, especially the presence of heart-healthy and cancer-fighting flavonoids in hops.

I bought chick beer

Submitted by Justinian on March 31, 2006 - 9:23am.

OK, I'll admit it. I bought chick beer. But it was an accident.
So my wife comes home and I tell her I'm drinking figure-friendly beer and she cracks up. One look at the name and the label and she tells me I'm drinking chick beer.
