I remember a buddy of mine telling me how he used to sit in the balcony of the Oriental Theater at 44th and Tennyson and smoke pot. Wasn't it also a church at one time? Anyway, it looks like they're back in the entertainment biz.
From 6 to 9 p.m on Jan. 26, they're going to have a Winter Brew Fest.
Here's the info from:
theorientaltheater.com
Entertainment will be by Marty Jones (Is that the Lead Singer/Idea Man from Oskar Blues Marty Jones?) and classic movies! (Christmas Ale and Casablanca?)
Tickets are $15 advance and $20 at the door Includes 10 beer tickets, additional packets available for $10.
I wonder how many beers 10 beer tickets gets me?
The first 500 people get a commemorative glass.
Admission includes Oriental's evening show Furious George & the Monster Grove!
Sounds like a pretty good time.
That week will be a good one in terms of Malted Barley.
I'm going to the Johnnie Walker Journey at Invesco Field on Jan. 24.
If you haven't been to one of these before (and you like Scotch) you should go. You get to taste all of the Johnnie Walker blends with a multi-media presentation. And it's not like a PowerPoint, either. Last year the room was set up with 12-foot-tall screens covering all four walls and the images would travel around the room accompanied by kick-ass sounds. It was pretty cool.
Here's the link.

The Duke Street Kings - a band launched in northwest Denver years ago - will play at the Oriental Saturday, Jan. 6, 8-10. Rumor has it Elvis may show up, also. The Kings play blues and rock, some covers and some originals. They have a lot of fun with the audience. The Oriental is a fun place to see a gig like that.
